On Sunday, Jan. 8, Matt Kirk, a professional tracker and associate EMI instructor, will join Leonard to offer "Nature as Teacher, Nature as Healer," a special introductory class. Topics covered will include: Herbal First Aid, Reading the Forest, the Language of Birds, Listening to Plants and Creating Your Inner Compass. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Space is limited. Cost for the class is by donation. A central Maui location will be announced.
The first level of certification will be a 100-hour wild crafter training held one weekend per month from February to June on Hawai'i Island, Maui and Kaua'i. Wild crafting is the art and science of gathering food and medicine from the wild. Topics covered in Level 1 will include, 30-plus Hawaiian medicinal plants, chants and gathering protocols, medicine making, inflammation and immunity, plant cosmetics, wild edibles, and herb safety and toxicity. This certification, designed as a hands-on introduction to plant medicine and Earth awareness skills, can be taken as a stand-alone certification or as a prerequisite for EMI's advanced training programs.
