The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Maui (SPCA Maui) will conduct a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic for cats on Sept. 9 at a Central Maui location.

Drop-offs will be staged between 8 and 10 a.m., with cats being ready to return home between 1 and 4 p.m. All cats must be in individual, hard-sided carriers or traps.
Surgeries will be performed by Dr. Hatt, an O'ahu-based veterinarian. Dr. Hatt's team works alongside experienced SPCA Maui technicians and volunteers who work with assembly-line precision for examination, sedation and pre-surgical prep.
All cats will receive a tattoo for identification. Additionally, feral cats will receive a small identifying ear notch.
After surgery, caring volunteers will monitor the cats through recovery until pickup.
Conservative estimates report that a female cat and her offspring can produce more than 11,000 kittens in her lifetime. Using those figures, it is estimated this eight-hour spay/neuter clinic could potentially reduce Maui's future cat population by as much as 932,000.
