Hawai'i's prodigal son of standup comedy, Paul Ogata, will returns to Hawai'i for a special Christmas comedy show along with longtime veteran Andy Bumatai and local favorite Jose Dynamite for 'A Comedy Story." The show comes to Maui on Friday, Dec. 21, at the Maui Beach Hotel.
Ogata's show is an edgy, often-improvised, always-hilarious, wild ride through the corners of his mind. His quick, animated delivery of clever material led him to victory in the prestigious 32nd Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition. Paul has headlined shows around the world, including several shows in support of our troops stationed abroad.
On television, Ogata has been featured on the Showtime presentation of "Pacific Rim Comedy," Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham" and the syndicated "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen."
“A Comedy Show” comes to Maui on Friday, Dec. 21, at the Maui Beach Hotel.
Bumatai has been a standup comedian for over 30 years. Starting in Hawai'i, where he is a comedy icon, he has traveled extensively as a headliner in comedy clubs across America and as an opening act, on tour, with some of the biggest names in show business, including Tom Jones, Paul Anka, Kenny Loggins The Beach Boys and Lionel Richie.
Since 2011, Bumatai has played a significant role in the "Na Ali'i of Comedy Tour" in the Hawaiian Islands and in the Mainland alongside local comedy legends, Frank DeLima, Mel Cabang and Augie T. Most recently, Bumatai has been co-headling with Augie T. in the "Comedy Intervention Tour."
Dynamite is a Hawai'i-based standup comedian, multimedia executive and commercial copywriter. His standup career debut was in December 1999 during a college talent competition at Chaminade University, with all original material. His big break came in 2004 when he first was allowed to open up for Augie T. at his sold out Wednesday night show, when he was told to perform three minutes of clean material.
After a few months of consistency and discipline, Dyanamite eventually grew to become a regular opening act for Augie. T.'s Comedy Show. His brand of comedy is a mixture of "dumb local haole" and obscure observations.
The Maui show will be hosted by Chino La Forge, an up-and-coming local Maui standup comedian and founder of Power Up Comedy. La Forge recently returned to Maui from a six-week tour of the West Coast opening for several Mainland headliners, including the popular Aziz Ansari.
