For the ninth consecutive year, real estate broker Josh Jerman of Hawai'i Life Real Estate Brokers is offering the 2012-13 Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship to encourage college-bound students to use their education to benefit Maui County. To date, Jerman has awarded $26,000 in scholarships to 26 Maui, Molokai and Lana'i high school seniors who have demonstrated a passion for returning to Maui County after college and contributing to the local economy. In 2012, the three recipients of the Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship were Amanda Jorgensen of Baldwin High School, currently attending University of Colorado-Pueblo; Mikayla Pico of Molokai High School, currently attending Southwestern Oregon College; and Ohe'o Pua of Hana High School, currently attending University of Hawai'i Maui College.
This year, Jerman will award three additional $1,000 scholarships to three high school seniors who plan to contribute to Maui County's workforce after graduation. To apply, students must be Maui County residents, be enrolled in a full-time program at an accredited four-year college or university (for the 2013-14 academic year) and demonstrate financial need. The application deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, and recipients of the award will be notified on or before April 1, 2013. Scholarship funds will be awarded to the recipients' respective schools in mid-August. All Maui County high school seniors are encouraged to apply.
