On Monday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., Upcountry Sustainability will present an evening with Rich Von Wellsheim, president and co-owner of Whispering Winds Bamboo in Kipahulu.
Wellsheim will introduce attendees to growing and management techniques he and his partners have developed on the 20-acre plantation they manage. He'll discuss harvest and post-harvest processes, including borate treatment. Finally, he will describe their roadmap for making bamboo a viable building material in Hawai'i, plus efforts to obtain ICC certification.
Questions are welcomed.
