The Maui Weekly

On Saturday, Jan. 5, beginning at 8 a.m., 'Ao'ao O Na Loko I'a O Maui (Association of the Fishponds of Maui) and Valley Isle Road Runners will host the Fifth Annual Ko'ie'ie Fishpond 5K and Keiki Mile Fun Run. The community is invited to participate in this race and proceeds will benefit the restoration, education and outreach programs for Ko'ie'ie Fishpond in Kihei.

The course will begin at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary parking lot at 726 South Kihei Road and participants will head toward Ma'alaea on South Kihei Road. The course will turn around near the Lahaina/Kahului intersection and head back to the sanctuary's parking lot on a beautiful 1.5-mile beach run.

'Ao'ao O Na Loko I'a O Maui is the 501(c)(3) organization restoring the ancient Hawaiian cultural and archaeological site.
