Bon Appétit!

January 31, 2013

We usually know where we are going when we're on our way to a restaurant but sometimes it's just sheer serendipity that falls into play.

As it turns out, a few days ago I had just left my car with my mechanic off of Lipoa Street and was about to take the three-mile hike back to South Kihei. Suddenly (and quite unexpectedly), I noticed an honest-to-goodness French bistro right there off of Hale Ku'ai Street across from Goodyear Tire Center! I had never seen it before, but there, off the beaten path between South Kihei Road and the Pi'ilani Highway, conveniently sits a charming little restaurant called The Chez Meme Baguette Bistro.

I only had a cup of coffee for breakfast, and since it was getting close to brunch time, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to go in and try the food. Good decision!

and Another Thing…

The server who came to my table was smiling, friendly and cheerful, and when I asked her why would they ever put a nice little restaurant like this in the middle of nowhere, she responded that the locals love the fact that during peak tourist season they can use the Pi'ilani Highway to get there, avoid the congestion of Kihei Road and enjoy a peaceful and deliciously satisfying meal right smack in the heart of Kihei.

I had a delicious organic Forestiere vegetable omelette. The free-range eggs were cooked perfectly and filled with seasonal mushrooms, green peppers and fresh herbs. The delicious sauted potatoes (maybe a bit too buttery, but after all--it is a French restaurant!) were complemented with fresh baguette toast with organic strawberry preserves and a big cup of perfectly brewed French press coffee.

Being the slave that I am to the Internet, I was disappointed that they did not offer WiFi, but who knows? Maybe if we get a petition going

You who are reading this can be the first to tell your friends about your new discovery. It's the Chez Mm Baguette Bistro at 115 Kio Loop in Kihei. Check the breakfast and lunch menus out at baguettebistromaui.com or call them at 879-5425.

I plan on going back there again shortly, because their lunch menu looks wonderful, and this unexpected Franco-Hawaiian breakfast experience made the long walk home a lot more pleasurable.
