Following a similar vote in the House of Representatives, the Hawai'i Senate has voted to abolish the controversial Public Land Development Corp. The Senate repeal was passed unanimously. Now, both houses must consider each other's bills and come up with a final version that will eventually be sent to both houses for a yes or no vote. Sen. David Ige, chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, recommended eliminating the agency in his committee report to the Senate president, citing the agency's excessive powers.
