Excellent editorial on the anti-GMO protests in the April 4-10 issue ("GMOs: Science Fact or Fiction"). The lack of actual information at the demonstration was disheartening, and reminded me of similar demonstrations in Vancouver. Protesting is sort of the civic pastime there, and reminiscent of the "spontaneous" demonstrations in George Orwell's "Animal Farm." Chanting inane slogans and firing up doobs became ready substitutes for a real discussion of the facts.
From your reporter's account, it appears that, aside from the street theater, the lack of actual information might leave the door open for Monsanto to dismiss the protesters as ill-informed and misled.
Anyway, thank you for reminding people that whatever point of view they adopt, it should be an informed one.
