Violation absolved in sign case

August 15, 2013
Maui Weekly

A man who was cited when he held a sign warning of police traffic enforcement on South Kihei Road had the violation dismissed in court last week.

The citation for violating Maui County's sign ordinance was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought again, in the "interest of justice," according to a judgment in the case.

Kihei resident Kevin Olson said he was standing near Azeka Makai shopping center when he was cited June 18 while holding a sign saying an "MPD spotter van" was parked nearby and to "Be Smart."

Olson said he was careful to stay six feet from the pavement but was ticketed for being too close to a crosswalk.
