Rotarians manning tents and tables in front of several Maui businesses during weekends in July and August collected $5,814 and 60 boxes of school supplies for the 2013-14 academic year. Rotarians provided shoppers with lists of items needed by keiki and teachers, and also welcomed cash donations. Rotary members divided and delivered the collected supplies and funds to community programs such as Keiki Kupboard, which help children in need, as well as to individual schools on the Valley Isle.
This is the seventh year Maui Rotarians have sponsored school supplies drives.
Maui's Rotarians would like to thank Longs Drugs in Kula Malu, Kihei, Wailuku and Lahaina; Walgreens in Lahaina; Walmart in Kahului; and Office Max in Kahului for sharing their business space for these crucial drives.
Upcountry Rotarians (left to right) Bob Dant, Melanie Stephens and Carl Marsh gratefully accept school supplies from Maile and Grace Crowe, who are students at Kula Elementary School.
