A 55-year-old man was pronounced dead after he was found floating in the ocean off Halama Street and Waiohuli Place in Kihei on Thursday, Oct. 17, police said.
He was identified as Daniel Duck of Kihei. His body was found about 10 feet from the shoreline after Kihei patrol officers responded to a 11:28 p.m. report of a body floating in the water, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said the body was brought to shore, where unsuccessful attempts were made to revive the man.
About three hours earlier at 8:30 p.m., a friend had called police saying he was worried about Duck, who had recently been released from the psychiatric ward at Maui Memorial Medical Center, Rego said.
An autopsy is pending. The death is classified as a miscellaneous accident.
