Tower of Power & WAR Storm The MACC!

December 5, 2013
Maui Weekly

Two big bands take the stage of the Castle Theater at Maui Arts & Cultural Center (The MACC) on Friday, Dec. 6: Tower of Power and WAR. Both are legends that blend rock, funk, R&B and jazz in distinctive ways. Both have been at it for decades, influencing generations of musicians in all genres and finding new fans amongst all ages and creeds. The house will be rockin'!

Tower of Power has long been considered to have one of the greatest horn sections ever. The band members have collectively and individually recorded with most of the big names in music. They must be 10 of the hardest-working musicians in show business!

But the sum of Tower of Power is even greater than its parts. Together, these musicians' distinctive fusion of funk and jazz is a powerhouse of music! Remember "What is Hip?," "You're Still A Young Man," "So Very Hard To Go," "This Time It's Real," "Time Will Tell," "Don't Change Horses (in the Middle of a Stream)," "Down to the Nightclub" and "You Ought To Be Havin' Fun?"

WAR has such unforgettable hits, some of which are permanently ingrained in our collective American pop culture soundtrack--"Low Rider," "Spill The Wine," "Cisco Kid," "Why Can't We Be Friends," "Me and Baby Brother," "Slippin' Into Darkness," "All Day Music" and "Summer."

The band's long-hailed musical virtuosity and multi-cultural influences have impacted fans as well as other musicians for four decades--all races, generations and genres.

This is one WAR that has truly brought people together!
