Sarofim Realty Advisors Inc. appreciates the opportunity to clarify areas contained in the June 26-July 2 commentary, "Correction: KCA Not Partner With Pi'ilani Promenade Developers," by Mike Moran of the Kihei Community Association (KCA).
We were pleased to provide Mr. Moran an update on the Pi'ilani Promenade project so it could be read at the June 17 KCA meeting.
We cannot comment on Mr. Moran's concern regarding coverage by the Maui Weekly. However, we would like to confirm that we have met numerous times with the KCA board of directors, as we believe it is beneficial to get local community input on the planned project.
Mr. Moran is incorrect in his characterization of the public meeting held at the end of 2013. Over 150 people attended this meeting, and after the presentation, all attendees were invited to stay, share their views, and talk one-on-one with the project's owners, staff and experts. Nearly two-thirds of those at the meeting participated in these conversations and their comments were given to the owners and the project planners for review.
The statement presented to the KCA accurately represents the status of the project. Meeting various regulatory requirements requested by the state Land Use Commission (LUC) has added additional time to the project. We regret that Mr. Moran does not see our response as an update. This past week, we have submitted our Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to the LUC and that will provide an additional opportunity for public comment, which we encourage.
The KCA is an important and respected volunteer community institution and we are pleased to respond to invitations for information and hear their comments as we move forward.
