Budget Constraints to Impact Solid Waste Services in the New Fiscal Year

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management has announced that beginning Aug. 1, budget constraints are anticipated that will curtail refuse pickup scheduling and landfill hours. This will affect all Maui County refuse account holders, refuse haulers, contractors and all those utilizing Maui County landfills.

The anticipated changes include new hours of operation at the Central Maui Landfill, which are expected to be 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday (closed on county holidays). Hana, Molokai, and Lana'i landfills' new hours will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed on county holidays.

County refuse collection will remain the same but will no longer be provided on county holidays. Refuse pickup will be on the next regularly scheduled pickup day.

The reduced services have become necessary due to resource limitations placed upon Environmental Management by the County Council in its approved Fiscal Year 2015 budget.
