The worst has happened—your computer just crashed.
That wretched blue screen is staring at you—mocking you—as if it knows you didn’t back up your hard drive. You didn’t.
If you want to avoid this horrible scenario and others, you might want to enlist the help of a computer and electronic professional like Jason W. Gerow, manager of Paradise Technical Services LLC (PTS).
“Nowadays, everyone’s life is on their computers,” said Gerow. “Backups are a must.”
PTS is a technology services provider that started up in October 2008, shortly after the savvy 29-year-old technician moved to the island.
Gerow’s mother was born and raised on the Valley Isle and he still has relatives living here. After 15 years in San Diego, he made the move.
“Maui’s always been like a second home to me,” he said. “I like that people here want to help each other out, and I thought it would be a great place to start a business where I could help people with things that run their everyday lives.”
Gerow is a Microsoft Certified Technician and an honors graduate of ITT Technical Institute in computer networking, with years of experience at Circuit City, a high-end technology company. This PC tech took care of two locations, was rated numerous times in the top five in California for sales and customer excellence, and also helped the company start up an in-home PC service called Firedog.
“I had many loyal customers,” said Gerow. He is trained to help with all of your computer, home theater and technology integration needs.
He may be a “geek of all trades,” but Jason doesn’t like the term. “Just because you know a lot about technology, doesn’t mean you’re a geek.”
PTS provides a wide range of services, but Gerow’s “bread and butter” is personal computer work, targeting homes and small businesses.
“A hard drive is like a record player—you have to be gentle and nice to it,” he said.
PTS can install printers, hardware and software, and offers computer networking and diagnostics. PTS recommends a system backup, which transferring data to DVD, CD or external hard drive.
“I perform virus removals a lot and run into a lot of crashes without backups,” said Gerow. “You can get a hard drive for cheap and not have to worry.”
PTS can also set up your home theater, including connecting components, remote programming, surround sound and more.
“People don’t use things they buy to the full potential,” Gerow added. “It’s worth it to use expensive, better quality cables, though. It gives the full high-definition picture, with better color and sound.”
PTS can also make recommendations to help you get the most out of your system by performing a slingbox setup, enabling you to watch TV from anywhere you have Internet access.
“If you want to sit on Kam III and watch TV from your laptop, you can,” he said.
Technology integration is a field many people may not fully understand. PTS can setup your TV as a monitor for your computer system and link it into your surround sound system.
Have an XBOX 360 and a home network? PTS can help you stream live music and video from your computer through your game system and onto your TV.
Want to play against your friends around the world or play your favorite old video games on your Wii? Gerow can hook you up.
PTS has no hourly rate, and instead asks a flat fee for service calls. Gerow offers a guarantee of two weeks on all services performed.
Although PTS doesn’t sell products, Gerow will be more than happy to accompany clients to stores to find just what they need.
“I come to you or you can come to me,” he said. “Whatever works for you.”
As a Maui Chamber of Commerce member, Gerow keeps up to date with the business community.
“We want to provide the island of Maui with the best possible customer service,” he said. “The complete satisfaction of customers is the goal by providing simple solutions to complex problems and also make recommendations on your existing technology.”
